Recovering permanently deleted photos from an iPhone can be a little tricky, but not impossible. Here’s where iTunes and iCloud come in handy. Having an up to date iTunes backup will help you retrieve all of your photos, even in cases when your phone gets damaged, lost or stolen. In this article, you will find out just how easy it is to recover your deleted iPhone photos, in a few easy steps.
1. Recover from Recently Deleted folder
The first thing that you need to do to recover deleted photos is to check if they are still stored on your iPhone. Apple added a feature specifically designed for this situation in the photo app called “Recently Deleted”. All deleted photos are stored here for 30 days. If you don’t restore them to your Camera Roll over this period, the photos will be automatically and permanently deleted from this folder.
This method only works if you deleted the photos from your iPhone’s camera roll only. If you delete them from the “Recently Deleted” folder, there will be no other way to recover permanently deleted photos from your device, except from a backup.
2. Recover via iTunes Backup (PC required)
If you sync your iPhone with iTunes every once in a while, there’s a strong chance that the last backup that iTunes took of your iPhone has those special photos that you want back. In case you regularly backup your iPhone with iTunes, you probably have the photos.
Step 1: Connect your iPhone/iPad/iPod to the computer and open iTunes. (iTunes software required)
Step 2: Click on your device in iTunes, which appears in the upper-left corner.
Step 3: Right-click on your device and press ‘Restore from backup…’
Step 4: Choose the latest backup and proceed.
Losing photos is really annoying, right? Here are two tips for you:
Backup your iPhone in iTunes weekly once. If you click photos a lot, increase the backup frequency.
- Make use of iCloud. Enable Photo Stream and make sure photos you click are on Photo Stream so you can recover in case you lose them from your Camera Roll.
